What to Pack For Year Round Boarding Schools
You and your child have decided she will attend a year round boarding school. Now, she needs to know what she should pack. Most schools supply a list of items that are necessary. Consult with the dorm parent or admissions office if you and your child have any questions.

Appliances
Alarm clock.
Computer, jump drive, and printer. Schools generally specify the type of laptop students need. In some schools, students receive a computer as part of the tuition and fees. Bring all essential CDs in case your system fails. Jump drives are a relatively inexpensive method of carrying data with you around campus. You will also want to bring a printer to set up in your room in case you don’t have access to a computer lab at all hours.
Cell phone. Generally, schools establish rules about cell phone use. Check your child’s plan before the move. Nationwide calling plans and texting packages might be worth consideration.
Digital camera and extra batteries.
Stereo or MP3 player. Don’t forget to pack the music system of your child’s choice. This includes earphones and speakers.
Fan. This is helpful at the beginning of the school year.
Flashlight.
Bedding
Bath towels and washcloths.
Sheets, blankets, and a bedspread of comforter.
Pillow and pillow cases.
Clothes and Shoes
Socks and undergarments.
Bathrobe and pajamas.
Belts.
Dress clothes.
Lightweight jacket, winter coat, boots, hat and gloves.
Dress shoes, athletic shoes, sandals.
Casual clothing, including jeans, T-shirts, shirts, sweatpants.
Miscellaneous
Bicycle, lock and helmet.
Chair or bookcase. Ask ahead of time if these items are necessary or if they are supplied by the school.
Pens, pencils, binders, notebooks, dry erase board, envelopes, graphing calculator, highlighters, paper clips, ruler, scissors, stapler, tape and stamps.
Credit and ATM cards. Parents may give their child a credit card to use in case of an emergency. Your child should understand that this is not a free pass to use on a whim. The card should only be for emergency use. An ATM card will be useful, too. The account does not need a large sum of money; just enough for your child to withdraw cash if needed.
Quarters for laundry.
Sporting goods. If your child participates in sports, you should pack that equipment.
Hangers.
Sewing kit.
Water bottle.
Personal Items
Aspirin, Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen.

Boarding schools send a list of necessary and optional items once your child has been accepted. Any additional items each school deems necessary will be noted on the list.

How to Make Your Teenager’s Room "Cool"
Make your teenagers happy with the look of their bedrooms – allow them to
decorate it themselves. Give your kids a sense of autonomy and watch them take
on responsibility – it may pleasantly surprise you. Here are some suggestions
that can change the look of a room with relatively little expense.
Teenage Comforter Sets
Painting a bedroom is an excellent way to change its entire appearance with
minimal cost. Add interest by using deeper and stronger colors rather than
neutral ones. Try painting the ceiling for a change. Stencils, rag-rolling and
sponge painting add texture. Ask your local paint shop about different
techniques.
Consider blackboard paint for a section of the wall – or all the way around the
room. This allows them to express their creativity (or do their homework) –
especially if your teenager enjoys drawing. If you have the time or inclination,
or if your teen is particularly good at painting, a mural might be something to
consider. A logo of a favorite sports team can take up an entire wall (go
Canucks!).
Some teenagers are pack-rats and accumulate a mountain of assorted treasures.
They may not have enough room in their closets for all their stuff, so it ends
up under the bed and all over the floor.
Shelves are one solution – and they don’t have to be expensive wooden ones
either. Get creative and think of different types of crates and cement bricks
that you can spray paint in neat patterns – just put a wooden board across the
top.
For teenage girls, fabric hung from the corner of the ceiling in loops can make
the room look classy. If it is secured well, it can also be used as a place for
arranging stuffed animals. Find colorful scarves at local thrift shops, or
perhaps stored in the attic.
For teenage boys, t-shirts that remind them of soccer teams or Disneyland can be
hung on the wall. A plain t-shirt signed by all of his friends will add a
personal touch. Add a group photo next to the shirt to attach names to faces.
Pillows can be made cheaply. Use them as decorations on the bed or for friends
to sit on. Sew your own pillows by cutting out logos from old shirts and sewing
them together, using an old sheet as a backing. Stuff the pillow full of cotton
and stitch it up. If you don’t have old shirts, buy end of stock cloth at any
fabric store.
No teenage bedroom is complete without posters of the newest band, favorite
sports team, or hot actor. Framed pictures of friends look nice if arranged in
an original way. Opened Oriental fans attached to the wall at different angles
add character.
Have your teenager’s favorite quotes, funny sayings, or pleasant reminders
plastered on their wall. Cut out comic strips and tack to the walls – this may
keep visitors in the room longer than your teen wants them there. But they say
laughter is the best medicine – so it can make your teen’s room a healthy place
to be!

How it is Made
If you are wondering why they are so luxurious it is because they are made with stitched box construction that creates space for the down to loft to maximum thickness while at the same time helps to maintain even distribution of the fill.
What Makes it so Warm
The warmth it provides is a direct result of the fill or filling inside. It is made using white duck feathers. In this specific comforter made by Dream Oaks it has a fill power of 600. You will find that the higher the fill power, the larger and stronger the clusters of down are. This means that the large clusters provide much better insulation and breathe better than lower fill power comforters.

They promise all their customers that their products will give you a great night of sleep and this amazing colored comforter such as the red comforter will give you that. Twin XL Measurements For Dormitories
Twin Xl mattresses measure 39 x 80 inches. These extra long mattresses are commonly used in dorm rooms where students need extra room. The specially sized XL Twin beds used in the dorm rooms are made with the 39″ x 90″ mattress so for things like sheeting, mattress pads and feather beds you will need to buy the XL Twin size.
Teenage Comforter Sets
Colleges like to offer the Twin XL size because the students not only use them as beds – but also as a couch and hang out zone and occasional dinner table. The extra 5 inches does not sound like much but that extra long space becomes invaluable in cramped dorm life.
Because twin xl is such a specific size many students are not prepared when dorm move in day comes and they have to scramble for the extra long pieces of bedding. The most important thing needed is to have Twin XL fitted sheets. Some students don’t use or like the top flat sheet but at a minimum they want to cover the awful mattresses they will sleep on.
Because college students can be rough on their beds – the universities like to use specially covered mattresses that are waterproof and stain proof. However these easy care mattresses don’t feel good and can be stiff, hot and cause sleeping issues. It is a great idea to add a buffer between the student and the dorm bed – whether a twin xl mattress pad or a twin xl feather bed.
Some students maybe have a twin comforter they want to bring for home and in some cases this is acceptable. The official Twin XL size comforter is 68 x 92 – but if your comforter measures 66 x 86 – is that good enough – probably. However, the extra length gives you more coverage and for a messy college student – being able to cover their disheveled bed is not a bad thing.
Because dorm mattresses are so stiff – we recommend adding a Twin XL feather bed to provide ‘at home’ like softness and support. A little known fact is that feather beds can actually help more air to move due to the loose feather filling. This compares to the vinyl covered dorm mattresses which can leave students with a warm night’s sleep due to the air that cannot move with the thick vinyl covering they have.
If a student wanted extra support but not as much as a feather bed they can use a XL Twin mattress pad which usually has a fitted skirt that covers the side of the mattress and a top layer with some buffering material to soften a mattress.
Sometimes college students know that their beds are not going to be stacked and can consider using a full size comforter. You will not be able to use a full size sheet set or more specifically the full size fitted sheet with a twin xl bed. You may be able to use the full size flat sheet but will have excess fabric.

Finding My Birth Mother
Usually, a child will only be able to find a birth parent who wants to be found. Where can an adopted person look to find a birth parent. It can take time to find a birth parent if the caregiver has limited contact with the parent. You might find a birth parent but they don’t want to meet you. This is done through advertising or networking with professional contacts, friends and family to find a birth parent. Therefore, sometimes adoptees are cautioned that they may find a birth parent either dead at an early age, in jail or any number of undesirable possibilities. Another thing to realize is that while you may have tended to view adoption as a positive, joyous event, it’s important to appreciate the fact that for all your teen’s gratitude, he/she may also feel that he/she has “lost” his “natural identity,” and as a result, he/she may even begin to express a never-before-articulated desire to find a birth parent or parents. Perhaps they will experience rejection or find a birth parent who needs emotional or financial support they are not prepared to give. “Just because your son or daughter wants to find a birth parent doesn’t mean you did something wrong. Supposing one could even get past this point to adopt a child or find a birth parent, there still remains a stark difference between the accepted procedures of such personal issues. If you decide to find a birth parent on your own and then find a suitable agency to set things up as opposed to going through the agency, this can cost you quite a bit less.

Adoption
While tracing your birth family don’t be afraid to ask for counseling to help you work out your feelings during this time. Adoption records are automatically sealed until the adopted child reaches the age of 21.
Such information can be provided to the adoptive parents by the birth parents themselves, or by the agency or attorney handling the adoption.
Information
Birth parents can refuse to allow adoption information to be released, or they can file a Release of Information allowing the records to be opened when the child reaches adulthood. If you have searched the Internet and all the sources you can find and still have not found the information you are seeking, then it is time to purchase complete information resources.
Family
Psychologically speaking many adoptees, have issues and need therapy to deal with the grief and loss they feel at not having been able to grow up with their biological family. Even if they are happy with their place in their adoptive family, they may still be dealing with the effects of their early life experiences. ” The researchers found that adoptees search for their birth family because of both a sociological and a biological need.
Conclusion
Many people wonder why anyone would want to find a birth parent that gave them away or abandoned them. But this emotional difficulty must be overcome, if one is to find a birth parent. Many of the stories both from adoptees who want to find a birth parent, and birth parents who want information about the child they surrendered, are heart-breaking while others are very joyfull. These people all had a real need to find a birth parent and I think it take a very strong person to start searching, but the rewards far outweigh the drawbacks in my opinion.Good luck in your journey!

Puppy Love, Kitty Kisses
Are you looking for a new theme for your child’s bedroom? If so you may want to consider doing a puppy or kitten theme. Most children adore animals and will be thrilled with this home decor theme. Also, if you live in a home that is too small for pets or someone in your household has allergies this will be a great way to give your child a makeshift pet. While nothing truly takes the place of a pet that can return their love a good pet themed decor for your child’s bedroom can surround them with the joy offered by a pet’s smiling face.
Teenage Comforter Sets
For this project I suggest choosing a wall paper with an animal theme. Puppies, kittens, bunnies, and many other lovable pets are offered in various patterns and colors. If wall paper is out of your price range create you may be able to create your own. To do this, choose a solid color for your wall. I prefer white, but any will work. Next find some stickers that have the pet you desire. Buy several hundred of these and place in a pattern on at least one wall. If you have used white paint the border of the sticker will not be noticeable, however if you did not use white you may want to edge the stickers in your background color so that it all appears to be one piece. The cost of this project will depend on the size of your room. My daughter’s room is 6′ X9′ and I was able to do her walls for only about .00.
Next find a comforter set with the desired pet. This will begin to create your room’s focal point. In almost any bedroom the bed will be the focal point, so decorate it well. Besides the comforter set find stuffed animals and throw pillows that match your theme and color scheme. It is very important to match this room rather than blend it. Matching will help young children learn about color, tone, and hue. It will also help them learn to recognize patterns.
Another accessory that will help your child recognize color and pattern is an area rug. Area rugs come in all shapes, sizes and patterns. Area rugs are easy to clean and provide sound insulation. When choosing an area rug for this room, look for a rug in your color scheme that has many different geometrical shapes. If the area rug also features the pet your child’s room theme is built around that is fantastic. If not buy a stamp that features your selected pet and use paint to stamp the image on each shape. You now have an area rug that educates as well as decorates.
The personal touch that you have added to your child’s bedroom will be met with enthusiasm. This pet themed child’s bedroom will be a favorite memory even when your child has their own children. Give your child the best of your imagination by using these tips to create a fun and educational pet themed child’s bedroom today.

How to Decorate a Twin Room
Just because they are twins doesn’t mean that they have to like the same things. They will soon tell you that they do not like to share a room with their twin because they don’t like the same things as the other. If your space is too small to accommodate another bedroom then you have to think of some ways that they can each individually express themselves with out clashing with another.
Teenage Comforter Sets
Most boys like bugs so you can create a bug theme in their room that will have them amazed at how many different species there really is. You can start with the ceiling. there are glow-in-the-dark bugs that you can place on the ceiling that will attract their attention. On two of the walls you will want to paint their favorite color, one wall for each of them. Help them to come up with colors that coordinate together so you don’t have a room decor that is distracting.
For the ceiling, you want to use a light blue color to resemble a sky. You want the walls to be primary blue and green in color. Your child can also choose these colors or they can choose a color that matches with the rest of the decor. The floor needs to look like the dirt so paint it a light color brown. You will need bugs crawling up the walls.
If you have hardwood flooring down then you can add some area rugs to the floor. You can find several different colors of boys rugs but make sure that they can match the decor in your twins room. Blue or green is a good color to choose. You may be able to find bug rugs to put down on each side of their bed.
Next, you want to place table colors in blue and green on their kids table. You may want to use a gingham color print or another color to add a little bit of a pattern to the room since you are using all solid colors.
Next, have them walk around the back yard and take pictures of bugs they see. This may take a few days in order to get enough pictures for their room but once you have enough, take them to your local store and have them blown up to an 8×10. Then you can hang them in their room at various places on the wall. You just want to hang up about 8 pictures total so try to get each twin to snap four pictures.
You can purchase some bugs from any toy store and wrap twine or blue and green ribbons around them. These ribbons can go around the bedposts and around the headboard so it looks like the bugs are following a trail around their bed.
The bed sheets should be solid colors of blue and green so you don’t have too many prints in the room. Mix and match brown, blue, and green by placing a blue fitted sheet on one bed and a green flat sheet. Then reverse it on the other bed.

Teen Bedroom Decor
The teenage years are a unique time of life. Teenagers aren’t quite adults but they aren’t little kids anymore either. They have a need to explore and express themselves. By decorating their own bedroom they can show their style without doing anything extreme. Plus, teen bedroom décor doesn’t have to cost a fortune. There are so many things you can do to update your teen’s room that don’t cost a lot of money.
Teenage Comforter Sets
Teen bedroom décor is something that teenagers and parents can both have fun with. It can be a great bonding experience that will bring parents and teens closer together as they work to create a great living space. However, parents need to let the teen have the majority of control over the project. Sure, you can rein them in if things get too drastic, but decorating a bedroom is a great way for a teen to show their style. In a few years you can change the paint and bedding, but your teen will remember their great room forever!
So, where do you start? There are several things you can do that will update a room without breaking the bank. One of the least expensive things you can do is paint. A fresh coat of paint can really go a long way when you are updating. Paint fades over the years, plus your teen might want to try a vibrant color on one wall. After painting, add a few vinyl decals to the wall. They are a great way to create visual interest in a non-permanent way.
Does your child still have a comforter that was their favorite in the fourth grade? It is time to update the bedding as well. You can find fun and funky teen bedding sets that are perfect for a teen bedroom. There are so many different bedding sets to choose from. From bright and wild to smart and sophisticated, just about every style and pattern in covered when it comes to bedding for teens!
When you are looking at new bedding, keep in mind that there are many different types of bedding sets that you will find. Generally, a comforter set will have a comforter and a sham or two. You may get a bed skirt or a window valance, but usually it is just the comforter and shams. You will need to buy sheets separately if you choose to go with this type of set. However, buying sheets and comforter separately lets your teen express themselves even more. Instead of everything coordinating perfectly like it would if purchased as a set, you can get contrasting sheets and other accessories and create a look that is totally your teen!
After paint and new bedding, fun accessories can really make a room. Fortunately there seems to be a lot of great accessories on the market that are inexpensive, yet they are perfect for a teen bedroom. You can get bright, colored desk lamps and trash cans, not to mention fuzzy rugs and fun throw pillows. There is an abundance of bedroom accessories on sale in the fall as college students are starting to furnish their dorm rooms. This stuff would be great for your teen’s room as well.
You are only a teen once and teens would love to create a bedroom that is totally their own. Let your teen express their style and decorate their bedroom their way.
